The Picture of Dorian Gray review

This is such a fun, classic, gothic novel. The Picture of Dorian Gray has lovely imagery and imaginative language. Oscar Wilde did a great job at painting a spooky and eloquent picture of a man gone mad after corrupting his soul. It tells a tale of what can happen to a person if they sell their soul for pleasure, corruption and youth. Almost vampiric in nature, The Picture of Dorian Gray shows Dorian almost draining any goodness he had by his hedonistic, selfish and cruel tendencies. The story of a young, beautiful man painted by an artist who longs to stay young and exquisite looking forever while his painting decays, rots and bares the scars of the wickedness that is in his soul. I definitely recommend this gothic classic for anyone that loves a good, spooky read. The floral print cover was so lovely I had to have it. I found this one on Amazon for those who are interested but I am sure they have some on ebay as well.  It was the perfect read to ring in the New Year. There are several huge changes that I am making. Some things have died away while others have bloomed. I cant wait to see what happens in the future and am excited for what is to come. I hope the year sees all of you well and with that I shall go and read my next novel. See you in February!

Current reading for May and new shoes!

Currently reading: The Woman in Cabin 10 by Rut Ware and Welcome to Lagos by Chibundu Onuzo. They are both very different and very neat books. I just finished Welcome to Lagos. It is fantastic with lots of colorful images and even better characters. I fell in love with the main people in the book and really enjoyed the friendship they all forged while they were on the run from different things in their lives. The ending was sad but kind of bittersweet because you get to see what the characters are up to as well. I felt transported to Nigeria. I definitely recommend this book. I am almost finished with The Woman in Cabin 10. A creepy fun thriller set on a boat with loads of twists and turns.
I was at a thrift shop and found these amazing spike stud shoes for only 5 dollars. Such a great find! How has your week been? I hope it is fantastic and you have an even better weekend.

Autumn ghosts

Outfit inspiration: Wednesday Addams

Outfit:   I love Wednesday Addams. Who doesn't? Her dry, twisted humor got me through my teenage years. When I was 16 I wanted to be Morticia and now I kind of want to be Wednesday and Morticia. I put together this outfit with a rad dress I found on Dolls Kill website. They have a lot of Wednesday type dresses that you can check out. Over the years I have had many vintage dresses that looked Wednesday-esque but I wore most of them out. I have yet to find a grand Morticia dress like the one I wore around high school when I was younger.

Makeup: I am already pretty pale so to look a bit more gothic and macabre and bring out my spooky eyes I blended some pink shadow on top and under my eyes, put a bit of foundation on and blended that into my already pale skin and put a touch of pale pink lipstick on.

Creepy Dolls

One of my best friends collects creepy, haunted dolls. I am completely serious. I have been to her home and her house is surrounded by them. She seeks them out, particularly haunted ones and I hope to photograph them at some point and do a blog post on her collection. I found some vintage photographs of my relatives the other day but these photos of my grandmother caught my eye. When she was a little girl she collected dolls and posed with them. She would take them everywhere. Some of them were life sized and even taller than her but the strangest, creepiest one was a doll she loved named Dimples. I have since found out that the doll is still in our upstairs closet. I love the idea of spooky dolls and find them fascinating.

Game review for ipad: The Room

One of the better games I found for ipad was The Room. It isn't a super long game but it has some creepy fun elements that I think people will enjoy. If you like puzzle games you will dig this one. Full of mysterious symbols, locks, various keys and other interesting things I felt it was worth the two dollars I paid. I dont usually buy many games for my ipad but I definitely recommend this one. Perfectly suited for anyone including techies, gamers or  corporate goths that might want to do something fun on their breaks at work.
