Nana Comics!

Nana comics by creator Ai Yazawa are some of my favorite comics ever. I am slowly but surely building my collection. I find most of these from ebay and amazon but some are gifts from my beloved friend. Nana follows the adventures of two women named Nana who are complete opposites and end up getting a flat together in Tokyo. There is music, fun clothing styles and I love all of their friends. My good friend looks a lot like one of their friends and he ended up getting me a few of these so that was sweet. I think you will love not only the fun story but also the aesthetics of the mangas. Let me know what some of your favorite manga series are in the comments. Much love to you. Fall is almost here!

Nana manga from various places, skeleton hand and rib cage figurines from Dollar Tree.

Sandman by Neil Gaiman

I and many other Sandman fans have ben waiting years for a cool adaptation into film and show. I am so happy that Neil Gaiman wrote these and I have so much love and respect for him and Sam Kieth and the many other illustrators that brought these comics to us. Below is my graphic novel collection. Some day I would like to own all of the vintage 75 comics haha that is my dream. No pun intended ;)

Everyone will ask where I got this Death top. I got it from etsy

Deadpool and Alice in Wonderland movies

Finally saw Deadpool and Alice in Wonderland. Not at the same theater but it was fun. I really liked the Alice movie. Not as much as I liked the first one but I will definitely buy it. I also liked Deadpool. Hilarious. I want to get that film too. My husband particularly liked it because he is super sarcastic like him haha. I hope there are more fun goth-esque movies to see this summer! It is almost summer ahhh it is super toasty here so I will be spending a lot of time indoors at theaters and drinking yummy iced juices and vegan ice cream cones. Yum yum!!!

Outfit inspiration: Ramona Flowers from Scott Pilgrim vs the World

Ramona flowers is more steampunk than gothic but some of her outfits have a few elements to it. If you want to do casual steampunk type this would work. I put together a few fun outfits. They have a bit of color but I paired it with black faux leather jacket to give it more of a gothic punk rock feel like she had in the film. For her makeup I did a dark gothic berry lip and a bit of shadow on the eyes. For her signature star purse I colored a star on blue paper and just taped it over a circle bag I had. Goggles I got at Steampunk Couture online. For those of you that don't know she is the little hipster/indie rocker steampunk chick in Scott Pilgrim vs the World film who has a penchant for steampunk goggles, tea drinking and being generally awesome. Scott Pilgrim is based on one of my fav comic series and video game. You goth and indie nerds will get this ;)

Part of my Ramona Flowers cosplay. This is the scene where she delivers an amazon package.

Gothic/punk sleeveless gloves, Abbey Dawn.
Shorts, American Apparel.
Shirt, Powell's Books.
Fishnets, Hot Topic.
Gothic/black faux leather jacket. (I think this was urbanoutfitters?)
Gothic/steampunk goggles, Steampunk Couture.
Eyeball purse, Dolls kill.
Green jacket, Wildfang.

Excalibur Comics

Let me start off my saying I have been to a lot of comic books shops but this one was by far the most organized and together comic shop I have ever seen. If you find yourself in Portland make sure to check it out. They have something for everyone from the goth to the geek to the super comic book nerd and the guy there was chill, friendly and knowledgable. He was nice and not pretentious like some comic book people my friends have run into. He was happy to share his knowledge and suggestions. We had a great time browsing the selections and we will definitely be back.

Art meetup February

I love having art meetups and getting inspiration from other artists and friends of mine. It is always so replenishing and wonderful. I got together with friends of mine this Saturday for an art meet up and sketched a few things. It is always great to look through friends portfolios and check their pieces out.

Coffee and Comics

Today friends and I met up at Starbucks to grab some java before heading over to check out comic books and vintage goodies. We had a great time and it was so fun to meet other people with like interests. I hope you all had a good weekend.
