Winter Solstice celebration

I met up with group and we had a Tim Burton movie themed night for a small winter solstice celebration. It was so nice to hang with all of you. My friends brought me some really lovely gifts and we had delicious sparkling wines and food. I try to do a celebration every winter solstice. It is one of my favorite times of the year.

My friend made this lovely Tim Burton scarf for me. I love it so much!! It went with the theme of our movie night. We watched Nightmare before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands.

I got to use my new bat wine stopper. This stuff was delicious! I had several glasses!! :D

Game of Thrones beer. Yessss!!!

My husband's home made salsa.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

My friends and I really enjoyed the Desolation of Smaug. I came donned in my elven tunic, gray undershirt and elf ears to portray a Silvan elf. One guy nodded at me when he saw me walking. It was pretty funny. Over all we really enjoyed the film quite a bit. To critics who are bothered that there is a female elf written into the film that wasn't in the book. Keep this in mind: The books were written in a more patriarchal time and I found it actually refreshing that they had a strong female heroine. I enjoyed Tauriel and found her a wonderful addition to the Hobbit films. There were woodland elves mentioned in the books and I thought it was really cool that there was more elaboration and imagination bringing someone like Tauriel into the story. We really loved the portrayal of Smaug, the dragon. It was super fun to watch. One of my favorite things about the film was the eventual camaraderie between the Hobbits and other species of beings in the film. It was on the long side like the first Hobbit film but the pace was picked up much faster and better. I recommend this movie to friends and others. You are in for a heart pounding, fun ride!

I wore these adorable elven ears I found on etsy.

German Holiday Market

I saw my friend down town at my favorite cafe' so I snapped this picture of him. He is shy and turned away but we both think those moments make the best photos.

These handmade ornaments were lovely and affordable.

I love holiday markets. This one was very special and it helps to support a kid's school. My husband and I went to support this today. It was so cool to have something different from your usual art and wine fest. They had delicious beers, pretzels and traditional German foods there as well. I got my mom a few gifts since she is sick at the moment. I think she will really enjoy them. I loved all the DIY arts and crafts. We got some warm apple cider and browsed around. It did get pretty crowded but the wonderful prices for arts and crafts made up for it. If you go to this just be patient and polite as a few people are bumping into each other. One poor chick spilled hot cider on herself after a lady bumped into her. Ouch! I made sure to hold mine extremely carefully since there were many children about. I got a very interesting gothic/fantasy looking necklace that was made by a little boy. It reminded me of the eye of Sauron from Lord of the Rings so of course I bought it. It was five dollars and I was happy to find something so unique at a nice price. I also purchased a candle made by children for 8 dollars as well. It was so pretty and elven. It had little bits of moss at the top with a small candle and inside there were lovely, fragrant bits. I can't wait to warm up my house with it.

I do so hope they will have this market next year. It is something I would like to frequent with my group and friends. Happy Holidays everyone. I hope to check out Christmas Tree Lane this year as well as maybe one or two tree lighting ceremonies.
